Beaches of Tangalle

Tangalle’s coastline stretches for miles on both sides of the town. The town itself is lively but modest, with small shops, cafés, a distinctive clock tower, and a busy bus terminal. East of Tangalle lie the long, straight beaches of Medaketiya and Medilla, lined with boutique hotels built in anticipation of large tourist numbers that never fully materialized.

Further northeast, around 4 kilometers from town, lies Kapuhenwala in Marakolliya—a stunning beach backed by the mangrove-lined Rekawa Lagoon. To the west, the Pallikaduwa coastline stands out with its rocky coves and dramatic scenery, offering a more rugged and picturesque alternative to the sandy eastern beaches. Beyond Goyambokka, the coast becomes even more dramatic, featuring a striking rocky headland flanked by two beautiful beaches.
