Introduction

Kota Ganga Ella Falls is a spectacular cluster of cascading waterfalls located within the Knuckles Mountain Range in Sri Lanka’s Kandy District. The waterfall system consists of at least seven major segments, with a combined height estimated to exceed 100 meters. Nestled deep within dense jungle, the falls have no officially established trail, and access is possible only via narrow paths known to local villagers. Due to the surrounding terrain and vegetation, there is no single viewpoint from which the entire waterfall can be seen.

Trekkers can reach Kota Ganga Ella Falls by starting from Thangappuwa Village. The journey involves an approximately 5.5 km uphill hike through challenging terrain. Because the route is unmarked and remote, it is highly recommended to undertake the trek with an experienced local guide who is familiar with the area.
