Kalpitiya

A haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers, Kalpitiya is located on Sri Lanka’s northwestern coastline, nestled between the Indian Ocean and a tranquil lagoon. Famous for sightings of large groups of dolphins and whales just offshore, the area has been declared a marine sanctuary. Its landscape features coral reefs, flat coastal terrain, saltpans, mangroves, wetlands, and expansive sand dunes. Covering approximately 307 square kilometers, the Bar Reef is the largest coral reef in Sri Lanka.

Bursting with marine life, the reef shelters a wide range of species including colorful tropical fish, manta rays, reef sharks, and sea turtles. The ideal period to explore Kalpitiya is from October to May.
