Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Once reserved solely for the Kandyan royalty, these stunning gardens are now open to the public, allowing everyone to explore Sri Lanka’s largest and most impressive botanical gardens, spanning 60 hectares.

Visitors can marvel at an exquisite collection of orchids, stroll along the grand avenue of royal palms, and admire the unusual cannonball fruit tree. Towering 40 meters, the Burma bamboo makes a striking impression, while the enormous Javan fig tree dominates the expansive lawn with its massive trunk and umbrella-like canopy.

The gardens are also alive with wildlife, including thousands of fruit bats and playful monkeys, making every visit vibrant and memorable. Located just 6 km from central Kandy, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens is one of the city’s top attractions.
