Elephant Ride in Sigiriya

Sri Lanka has long been a land where domesticated Asian elephants live closely alongside people. It’s common to spot these tame elephants near village roads, temples, and even family homes. Unlike their wild counterparts, trained “house elephants” are calm and accustomed to human companionship, and many Sri Lankan families care for them with great affection.

Before modern transport, bullock carts were the primary means of travelling from one village to another. Today, bullock cart racing still survives in some rural communities, though it is far less widespread than it once was. If you’d like to enjoy a nostalgic ride, you’ll find plenty of traditional bullock carts available in the Sigiriya region.
